Why the Gorilla, guys?
At This Dad Can we’ve been asked by a number of you, “Why the Gorilla, guys?”.
Male Gorillas are the largest primates in the world, with some recorded weighing over 35 stone. Often known for their brute force, dominance and for being muscular animals. However, despite these characteristics, they are also fantastic gentle patriarchs.
The bond that a Silverback has with females forms the core of Gorilla life. Those bonds are sustained by grooming and staying close to one another. The relationship between the Silverback and its offspring is often also supportive, the Silverback will shield them from threats. The constant availability of the Silverback contributes to less intense conflicts between an offspring and its mother.
At This Dad Can we’re passionate about resourcing men to be the Dad’s they want to be. Similar to the Gorilla, we know guys have more under their skin than the muscular, perhaps dominant veneer. At a brief glance, they may appear to conform to gender stereotypes and prejudice, however, we know that the common guy (similar to the Silverback) cares about investing and sustaining their relationship with their partner’s. We know Dad’s support and protect their kids, that they are available and are keen to share the load with their partner's. So, here’s one to the Dad’s, or should we call them Silverbacks.
